The Conference

The FMA Conference has been held annually for over 50 years and is the most respected flood risk management event held in Australia. Shoalhaven City Council will host the 56th Floodplain Management Australia Conference which is being held in Nowra, on the NSW South Coast.

The theme for this year's conference is Rock 'n' Role - Innovation and Role in Flood Risk Management which looks at best practice and innovation and the different stakeholder 'roles' in floodplain management.

This conference will attract over 250 practitioners who work in or with an interest in floodplain management. Attendees will include Commonwealth, State and Local Government representatives, research organisations and education providers as well as consultants, engineers, land-use planners, and community volunteer organisations.

The conference will include outstanding Australian and international keynote speakers, plenary and concurrent presentations, a Local Government Councillors' session, field trips addressing floodplain issues in the Shoalhaven and networking events. There will also be Pre-conference Workshops providing a choice of either an introduction to flood risk management (designed specifically for elected Councillors and staff new to floodplain management), or in-depth discussion of topical issues.
